New College is finding ways for students to meet with professionals in their possible career paths. We’ve started to partner with companies in the area, like Morgan Stanley, to allow students to intern for a day and learn about the field. We’re also connecting students with entrepreneurs in a variety of fields.
Students have interned at the HuB, a dynamic space and community in Sarasota. One project involved collecting data on video advertisements and social media used by all the county Conventions and Visitors Bureaus in Florida. They then analyzed the data and pitched a possible marketing strategy.
Other projects included analyzing bitcoins and providing data for an article on the currency, and collecting and analyzing data and pitching an action plan on a bike-sharing program in Sarasota. Students also worked with the Bright Ideas on the Gulf Coast (an initiative of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation) to develop a viable strategy for possible future business ventures.
What those projects have in common is that they help New College students successfully transition from college into a specific career.
