The 2018 Giving Challenge, a 24-hour, online campaign presented by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County with giving strengthened by The Patterson Foundation, was a big success for the New College Foundation.
As the leaderboard closed at noon on May 2, the Foundation had raised $57,509 — representing 642 individual gifts — to benefit New College students and faculty.
The New College Foundation ranked No. 7 for dollars raised and No. 8 for number of gifts made among the more than 630 nonprofit organizations participating in this year’s Giving Challenge.
The Patterson Foundation, which this year matched gifts up to $100, provided another $44,840 in funding. Still to be calculated is an additional match from the Johnston Family Foundation, thanks to the generosity of Board of Trustees member Bill Johnston and his wife, Betsy. The Johnstons also matched individual gifts up to $100, which is expected to bring in at least another $44,840 in funds.
This information is preliminary and subject to third-party verification. However, when all of the final numbers are in by early July, it appears that the College will have collected at least $147,000.
“This is a phenomenal result,” said MaryAnne Young, executive director of the New College Foundation. “I want to thank all of the alumni, board members, community friends, faculty and staff who helped make this year’s Giving Challenge a success. I am particularly grateful for the team of professionals here at New College who spent endless hours planning and marketing the Challenge. It was a lot of work, but well worth it! We are proud to be a beneficiary of such a generous community.”
Overall, this year’s Giving Challenge raised more than $11.7 million, including The Patterson match, to benefit nonprofits serving Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties. All organizations demonstrated a commitment to transparency by having profiles in The Giving Partner.
